Charles Grant was a director of the famous East India Trading Company in the 19th Century. Even though you may not have heard of him before, he had an important role in the abolition of slavery by publicly supporting putting an end to the practice. If you think about it for a moment, this is really quite remarkable: Charles Grant stood up for what was morally right, rather than the status quo – turning his back on a business practice that benefited his profit margin.
Here at the Eradicating Ecocide HQ, we think that Charles Grant is a wonderful role model for the business leaders of today. Who will be a modern-day Charles Grant and stand up against the mass destruction of the environment? Will it be the head of a fossil fuels company? Will it be the CEO of an airline? Will it be the director of a global food corporation?
We will be launching a campaign to find this industry leader ready to turn their back on environmental destruction - or several of them – soon, and we look forward to hearing your recommendations. Some ideas for a future Charles Grant have already been discussed in an article in the Guardian in the UK.
